There has never been anything in dentistry quite like dental implants for replacing missing teeth. They typically consist of three parts.
The first part is the root replacement, which is often made of titanium, placed into the jawbone where it provides the foundation for an artificial tooth or a permanent denture. For a successful implant, you need proper bone density and a healthy immune system. The second part of the implant is called an abutment or metal post, which is where your dentist attaches the third part of the implant, the dental crown restoration.
